Potty & Pee Training

When we bring a puppy home we must keep the pup inside the crate from the very first day and take it out every 2 hours for it to play and/or potty and pee. This must be followed until the pup is housebroke trained, potty trained, trained for formal basic obedience, and understands every rules and limitations of your home. You cannot keep the puppy inside the crate/ex-pen for the whole day; it should be taken out every 2 hours for doing his/ her business like potty and pee, exercises, interacting with the new pack members(i.e., your family members) with your supervision. When I say Potty Training I must tell you that there are 3 prime times for this; One is after eating and drinking something, Second is after exercise or play time, and the Third prime time is after the pup wakes up from sleeping be it night or day. Besides these the puppy should also be let out of the crate/ex-pen every 2 hours or less to relieve itself (potty and pee). Every time you take the puppy out for potty/pee in your desired place, carry its favourite treat with you and reward him/her after he/she finishes his/her business(potty/pee).This should be followed by a particular term like “Do it” or something to make him/her understand and please make sure you use the same term always(u may also use your local language, doesn’t have to English, just make sure you are consistent with the term/word )so that puppy understands that he/she needs to relieve now. By doing this you again establish yourself as a fair Pack Leader. Many pet owners often complain that when they take their puppies out for potty or pee they don’t do it outside but they do it right after coming inside the house. The puppies do this because whenever they do this the owner doesn’t do anything to make the puppy realize that it is not supposed to be done. What I mean is if your puppy does something like this don’t let it run free, put it inside the crate immediately after coming back inside to make it realize that it’s wrong. And take it out again every half an hour to do its business and repeat this until it does where you want him to do it. If he does his business at your desired place praise him with an animated voice, give him its favourite treat and play with for a while after coming inside. This will make him realize that every time he does it on your command at your desired place he will be rewarded and that you are pleased with him. Every dog wants to please its master and it’s us who has to teach the dog what the right things to do are and we have to do that by being fair to them. If you are consistent they will understand quickly that they are not supposed to potty or pee inside the house. Some people scold their puppies/dogs or hit them mildly when they see that the dog has done it (potty/pee) inside the house. This is wrong and it makes your dog fearful because you dog will not understand the reason why you are scolding him or hitting him. You see dogs think differently than human beings. If your dog is doing it (potty/pee) in front of you and you immediately stop him, he will understand that he is doing something wrong which is why he is being scolded but if are not around while he has done it(potty/pee) and then you come back and scold or hit him, the dog will have no idea what he did wrong and as to why his master is unhappy with him and scolding him. By doing this you are simply ruining your relationship and the bonding with your puppy/dog. This isn’t all about Potty and Pee Training, there’s a lot more that I can share so if any of you have any queries just comment below or visit the section ”Ask A Question”  on our website and I will try to answer as soon as possible.

Thank you very much for this nice article Mr. Bhattacharya, it really worked on my beagle puppy. Before I read this article I had no clue why my puppy always pee inside the house no matter I take her out but he doesnt do it out side and the moment he enters inside he used to do it. But after applying your way he is such a good boy. thanks a lot to share your expertise for free in your website.
